Burnham Overy Watermill was built in 1790 by Edmund Savory, a tenant on the nearby Walpole Estate.  Savory's long watermill rises to two stories in a distinctive red brick, with a pantiled roof and was constructed in various stages from 1790 through to the mid-nineteenth century. The mill was used to grind oats but unusually it also produced both wind and water power from the same site.

'Burnham' is the name given to the villages found around the River Burn on the North Norfolk Coast; the River Burn actually flows into the mill pond at Burnham Overy Watermill. Burnham Market is the largest of these villages, boasting a delightful array of local shops, restaurants and pubs. Burnham Thorpe was the birthplace of Admiral Lord Nelson. Burnham Overy Staithe itself is a small coastal village, once frequented by fishermen. Today it is a popular place for birdwatchers, sailors, walkers and cyclists. Guests at West End Watermill enjoy easy access to the coastline and beaches of North Norfolk.
